Quartz Pool Finishes in Nolanville, Texas
Killeen Pool Resurfacing installs quartz pool finishes in Nolanville, Texas, the Bell County city on South Nolan Creek and State Highway 190 just east of Killeen. A quartz finish sets quartz aggregate in cement, and SGM points out that quartz, unlike marble, is completely insoluble even in strong acid; the National Plasterers Council rates a quartz finish as a 10 to 15 year surface.
Nolanville has grown from an estimates base of 5,922 people in 2020 to an estimated 7,983 on July 1, 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Whether your pool is near the SMART Museum on 10th Street or along Nolan Creek, a free estimate is the time to choose quartz colors and settle the bond coat and the start-up, and calls and form requests are picked up 24/7.

Quartz finishes for Nolanville's newer homes
A 2007 median year built
In the 2020 Census, Nolanville had 5,917 residents in 2,199 housing units. The 2020–2024 American Community Survey from the Census Bureau dates the median Nolanville home to 2007, and 64.3% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median home value is $244,900, the median household income $72,480, and 6.2% of homes are in buildings of five or more units.
Set those dates beside the trade's ratings. The National Plasterers Council's surface ratings are 10 to 15 years for quartz against 5 to 8 for traditional white plaster, and SGM designs its Diamond Brite quartz finish for 8 to 12 years, adding that many consistently maintained pools last longer. Colors, brands and exposure methods are covered on our quartz pool finishes page.
Quartz over an original finish
Makers differ on what goes under a new finish. SGM, CL Industries and Premix-Marbletite sell bond coats for going over sound old plaster, while Pebble Technology International's remodel process strips the old surface first. Where its finishes go over an existing finish, SGM requires its own Bond Kote system and won't warranty them over any other bonding material, though Bond Kote may not be needed where the old finish is removed by sandblasting or chipping. CL Industries sells AquaBond as one 5-gallon pail of liquid resin and two 65-lb bags of cement admix, rolled or sprayed on once loose plaster and contaminants are gone, and says it can cut the material needed for the new plaster coat by up to 30 percent; its two-part PermaKote Select is made to bond new plaster mechanically over an existing finish. Premix-Marbletite says it is critical to clean and prepare old plaster properly so the new plaster gets a tenacious bond.

Get free estimatesWater from WCID No. 1 through WCID No. 3
Nolanville's water is supplied wholesale by Bell County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 through Bell County WCID No. 3, Nolanville's own retail utility district. The same wholesale system also supplies Belton, Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights, the 439 Water Supply Corporation and Fort Hood.
The yearly switch to free chlorine
WCID No. 1's normal disinfectant is chloramine, chlorine plus ammonia, but every year it switches to free chlorine for a February "burn" that maintains the system; in 2024 the switch was scheduled for February 1 through 29. Nolanville's 2021 water quality report, for the WCID No. 1 source water, lists the chloramine residual averaging 2.55 ppm (range 0 to 3.68 ppm) against a maximum of 4, and total trihalomethanes at a highest level of 46 ppb. That report prints no hardness figure.
Testing the fill water
With no hardness figure on record, the fill water's numbers come from testing on the day. The National Plasterers Council says to fill a new finish with clean potable water, never softened or reverse-osmosis water, and to test it for pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and metals and record the results.
Building permits in Nolanville
The City of Nolanville requires a building permit for "any construction which physically changes or adds structures to the property," and its Building Permits and Inspections page lists swimming pools and spas/hot tubs among the new-construction projects that need one; fencing is on its list of projects that don't. The City's 2025 universal permit application has a pool and spa section that separates above-ground from in-ground pools, asks for the pool's depth, and adds an inspection if a pool deck is part of the job.
Nolanville's list of current building codes names the 2024 International Building, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Energy Conservation and Fire Codes and the 2023 National Electric Code, but not the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code by name. Texas law adopts that pool code, as it existed on May 1, 2019, as the municipal swimming pool and spa code statewide, and lets a city adopt a newer edition. Nolanville is a home-rule city under a charter adopted November 2, 2010, with its own Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment. Ask its Building Permits and Inspections office whether a resurfacing job needs a permit before work starts.

Get free estimatesNolan Creek, Philip Nolan and the town's history
From Nolan Valley to Nolanville
Nolanville was first called Nolan Valley, for Nolan Creek, which was named for the explorer and filibuster Philip Nolan, and it was one of the earliest White settlements in Bell County, with 46 residents in the 1850 census. A post office named Noland Valley opened in 1878, the railroad arrived in the early 1880s, and the town took the name Nolanville in 1883; the name had earlier belonged to Belton, before Belton became county seat in 1852. After World War II it fell to about fifty residents in the 1950s, then revived and incorporated in 1966 with 200 residents and six businesses. As the Killeen–Fort Hood area expanded it reached 740 people in 1968, 1,050 in 1974, 1,834 in 1990 and 2,150 by 2000.
The City's own history page tells Nolan's story: an Irish immigrant mustanger and filibuster who made horse-trading expeditions into Spanish Texas in the 1790s and was killed by Spanish soldiers on his fourth, unauthorized expedition.
The SMART Museum and the 2023 park plan
The Nolanville SMART Museum, at 408 10th Street, is the City's community learning and activity space; the name stands for Science, Making, Arts, Recreation and Technology. The City's 2023 Master Park Plan lists pools and splash pads among the recreational park amenities it classifies, alongside sports courts, playscapes and trails, and its Nolan Creek Matters program covers the creek that runs through town.
Other finishes and repairs we handle
Quartz isn't the only choice for a Nolanville pool. Other work here includes white and colored plaster, pebble and glass bead finishes, fiberglass resurfacing and repair, pool painting, new vinyl liners, waterline tile and coping, and crack, skimmer and leak repairs, on home pools and on apartment, HOA and other commercial pools.
In Harker Heights, where the median home was built in 2001, the town's page covers pebble pool finishes in Harker Heights, and Salado has its own page on pebble pool resurfacing in Salado.
How a quartz resurfacing job runs
Look for the warning signs
SGM tells owners to call an installer on seeing widespread surface etching, persistent dark mottling, calcium nodules or any sign of delamination, where the finish separates from the shell. At a free estimate we'll look for each of them.
Ask the City
Check with Nolanville's Building Permits and Inspections office before work is booked; its permit application already carries a pool and spa section.
Drain, plug and mark the fittings
SGM's manual plugs every inlet and main drain line during plastering, keeps every plug except the main drain in place until the pool is full to prevent drip stains, and marks each fitting with tape on the coping above it so it isn't plastered over.
Bond coat or strip
The old finish is either prepared for a bond coat or removed, following the finish maker's rules for what goes underneath.
Trowel, expose and stop at the waterline
The quartz is troweled hard and exposed. SGM notes that its Diamond Brite looks drier above the water line than below it, may show check cracking there, and will develop a water line ring, because the finish is not impervious to water.
Fill with nothing else touching it
The National Plasterers Council says no other water, such as sprinklers or rain runoff, should touch the new finish before the pool is full, and no person or pet should be in the pool until then. SGM says some aggregate loss is expected, especially in a new installation, and isn't a defect.

How warm does it need to be to put on a quartz finish?
The makers set the limits by temperature, not by month. SGM keeps materials and work areas between 50°F and 100°F for the 24 hours before and the 72 hours after Diamond Brite goes on, and CL Industries puts Krystalkrete on only above 40°F. In NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Killeen station, half of all years see their last spring freeze by March 14 and their first autumn freeze by November 17, and May is the wettest month, at 4.70 inches. Rain counts as well: the National Plasterers Council says no rain runoff should reach a new finish before the pool is full. Killeen Pool Resurfacing will help you pick a window at the free estimate.
How much does a quartz pool finish cost?
Typical Austin-area pricing in 2026 runs roughly $7,000 to $11,000 for a quartz finish. National 2026 figures put quartz aggregate at $7 to $12 per square foot, and $5,000 to $6,500 for a sample 560-square-foot pool. Neither range is our price; a firm number needs a visit to the pool.
